Chimera 100K | 100M

Nov 21, 2020
The Chimera takes place in the Trabuco District of the Cleveland National Forest in Southern California in what is known as the Santa Ana Mountains. Due to the Holy Fire, this year's event will take place in conjunction with the Old Goat Race and make use of the Old San Juan Trail and Chiquito Trail which connect Hot Springs Canyon with Bluejay Campground and the Candy Store. These three locations will be fully-stocked aid stations that allow crew access. Two minimally-stocked aid stations will be located at Chiquito Falls and Cocktail Rock on remote parts of the course where there is no crew access. The race will start at Lazy W Ranch where bunkhouses, electricity, hot showers, and a much easier drive in from the Orange County side all await you.

Both distances start at 5:00 AM. You have 33 hours to complete either distance. Pacers are allowed after 7 PM or after 50 miles, whichever comes first.

The course begins in Lazy W Ranch. It goes out on the Old San Juan Trail turns right on the Chiquito Trail, following it down to the Candy Store. Then, returns on the Chiquito Trail making a right on Old San Juan Trail to Bluejay Campground. Then, returns to Lazy W Ranch on the Old San Juan Trail.
  • The 100K will traverse this twice for a total elevation gain of 13,400 ft.
  • The 100M will traverse this three times for a total elevation gain of 20,100 ft.

Bunkhouses with showers and electricity are available for one or two nights on the Lazy W Ranch for anyone participating, their friends, family, or crew.
